As part of our Leicestershire Trip, Holman-Climax Male Voice Choir visited Ibstock and gave a joint concert with Coalville Male Voice Choir in their 70th anniversary year at The Palace to a full house. The concert which was held on Saturday 24th May 2014 was very well received and culminated with the Choirs joining in song to rapturous applause.

This was very special for Angela Renshaw the Choir’s Musical Director as Ibstock and the surrounding area was where she grew up and the Leicestershire Trip was organised specifically as a thank you and so that the Choir could see the area she hailed from.

The venue, which is now a Community Centre, is one of the earliest surviving examples of a purpose built cinema and was designed and built in 1912. The cinema has a very strong familial connection with Angela. as various members of her family helped to build it, played the organ during film screenings and provided impromptu entertainment when the film reels broke. It was fitting therefore that her family turned out in force to support her and the Choir she now leads.
